Hi, I am Jenny Gartner the Kodachrome chemist at Dwayne's. I just wanted to take a few minutes to answer some misconceptions of our company and what we do. Dwayne's has run a Kodachrome line since 1994. We started by just offering 35mm still film services. The motion picture processing was added in 1998 and we just kind of fell into the market. We are one of only two labs in the world processing Kodachrome motion picture film and the only lab in the western hemisphere. We are an independent lab not owned by Kodak but licensed and monitored by Kodak. The Kodachrome division is a very small part of Dwayne's Photo. We are an out-lab servicer and do largely ancillary work which is what Kodachrome film now is. WE DID NOT BUY FUJI'S PROCESSOR. We did buy some splicers and rewinders from them but we already had a film processing machine up and running. We don't do film for Targets, K-Mart to name a few and I probably can't tell you exactly who we do film for but if it is only taking a couple of weeks or less to get your film back and it is taking around three weeks to get your film back from Switerland.. I think you can figure it out. K25 film in the 35mm still format and the 16mm formats has been discontinued, but Kodak will continue to sell the stock they still have.

    alex,
i can't tell you how many rolls we are doing but we're doing good. Unless we are having trouble with our machine we promise same day service monday thru friday and we always run no matter how much film we have or don't have. we only run 16mm and regular 8mm once a week and it just depends on production numbers whether we would do an additional mid week run and how much we had waiting to run. Push/pull are part of that equation too. We offer rush services for reg 8mm and 16mm if time is a factor and for $20.00 extra we offer same day service on them as well. We are in Parsons, Ks a small town so we don't have many people walk film in but when they do if they get it to us by 10:30 AM (cst) then they have it around 2:30 pm. 99.999% of our motion picture film is delivered by the USPS, UPS and Fed EX.

    Jenny,

This has to be one of the best kept secrets in the whole wide world of film. Someone lucky enough to live in your town can actually walk in with a roll of K40 at 10:30 a.m. and pick it up by 2:30 p.m.?

    This blows my tiny mind!

Well, that settles it. I'll have to convince the wife, but we'll just have to move to Parsons, Kansas!

Say, can you guys do Kodachrome super 8 prints with sound stripe? Super 8 prints at all?

    Jenny,

Thanks very much for stopping by. You guys do a great service. I'm about to send some film your way... Hope the exposure is better than it was last time, but that was my fault and not yours!

I would like to know if your processor is gentle enough to handle Super16???? Or, if it will mangle the edges like some labs that claim to have S16 friendly machines. Thanks

Can you tell us how many rolls of kodachrome you do per day?

What is the minimum amount of rolls you need to justify doing a processing run?

Do you have any walk-ins who come in first thing in the morning, and pick-up their film at the end of the day?

You guys are cracking me up, move to Parsons?? This town is so small like 10,000 people. The nearest mall is an hour a way and it just got a GAP store last year. Kansas City and Tulsa are the nearest large airports and they are 2-3 hours away. You would go stark raving mad in a month. Anyway we do not make prints at this time. We can handle Super 16mm although i can't remember seeing any come through. We have had double super 8 which I believe is only available in Europe. Could you further explane your concerns with the super 16mm format?? Which edge in relation to the emulsion side of your film??

I'm not trying to convince anyone to use our services. They speak for themselves. Just stopped in because Alex thought it would be fun and wanted to see what people are interested in and what they have to say, let people get answers "straight from the horse's mouth" Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]. Thanks for all the feedback.

Does Fed-Ex arrive in time for that same day processing, or you far enough off the beaten path they don't guarantee delivery until noon or later?

actually, we receive all our work from Fed Ex before 10:00 am, even the standard overnight delivery packages. We are a VERY good customer and that is why we pass our Fed Ex rates onto our customers for return shipment back to them.
